拜尔公司正在开发的农药新品种

(2010-1510E-18)

We are now working on a new generation of environmentally friendly active substances. We anticipate peak annual global sales of more than EUR 1 billion with products based on the new substances we plan to introduce to the market between 2010 and 2012.

Among the six new active ingredients are three fungicides from a new generation of fungal respiratory chain inhibitors: Aviator Xpro (active ingredient: bixafen), Luna (fluopyram) and Emesto (penflufen). They belong to the new and unique chemical class of pyridinyl-ethyl-benzamides. Our researchers identified molecules that not only control plant diseases, but also offer outstanding additional benefits.

Aviator Xpro is an innovative cereal fungicide that boosts yields thanks to its positive impact on plant physiology. The product was developed specifically for foliar application to combat speckled leaf blotch (Septoria tritici) and brown rust. We are convinced that bixafen will set a new standard in combination with the proven Bayer active ingredient prothioconazole. Last week we received marketing authorization in the United Kingdom for the first products, which will be available for the 2011 planting season, and monday we receive the approval for Germany as well.

Luna was developed to combat problematic plant diseases caused by fungal pathogens. It can be used in important crops such as grapes, fruit and vegetables, cereals, canola and soybeans to fight gray mold (Botrytis), sclerotinia, powdery mildew and other fungal diseases that can impair crop quality.

We are also continually introducing to the market new solutions for seed treatment, a particularly environmentally friendly method of crop protection. Starting in 2012, for example, we plan to market Emesto, which will be sold worldwide for many important crops.

Another example of an innovative new active ingredient is our new fungicide Routine to fight rice blast, a disease feared by rice growers that causes more financial damage to rice than any other disease. Routine strengthens the plants' natural defenses. This year the product has already been successfully launched in Japan and South Korea, and further key rice-growing markets in Asia are expected to follow shortly.

Our pipeline remains well stocked with a number of promising projects in both early and very advanced stages of development.

In the Environmental Science business segment, too – our business with products for non-agricultural applications – we aim to offer customers innovative solutions and further strengthen our leading role and expertise as the world's number one supplier of solutions for professional users.
